La Coalition Sherbrooke milieu de vie announces its campaign for a moratorium on big box stores in Sherbrooke.
12/3/2007

The question of commercial saturation is « forgotten » by council since the defeat of the Urban Plan.

The referendum campaign last spring was in good part dominated by issues linked to the development of the Plateau Saint-Joseph and to commercial saturation in Sherbrooke.
Given the results of the referendum, citizens should expect a thorough rethinking of the management of commercial supply and demand in their city. While this saturation level sits at 160% of actual demand, the council is examining the possibility of another mega shopping center on 12th Street near the autoroute #610 at CHUS.

A moratorium on big box stores is necessary.

The Coalition and its partners are counting on mobilizing the citizens through a petition that will require a moratorium. This document is available at many local businesses as well as on our web site.

Encourage local businesses during the holidays!

We also invite citizens to buy locally during the holiday season.  In doing so you will underline the importance of local businesses to the economic, social and environmental fabric of your neighbourhood.

Opportunité inespérée

The Coalition for Sherbrooke: a place to live has become a meeting place for all those concerned about environmental and social problems in our city. We are pushing innovative options to urban problems: projects that promote socio-economic and environmental health; protection of rural zones, opposition to big box centers; supporting neighbourhood businesses, local owners and local shopping.
